Samsung Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300) is getting a lot of firmware updates. Lot of people are working on it to make it better in each update. We have already described in our older posts about the I9300XXBLH4 JellyBean 4.1.1 update. CWM Recovery on all SGS3 LTE Variants

This post is all about on how to install CWM recovery on all variants of SGS3 LTE.  This is the first step to enable you to root and customize your phone.I thank  noobnl for this recovery image.

Supported Phones

This recovery should theoretically work on all LTE variants of SGS3.  Do not flash on other phones.
Confirmed on Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T SGS3.

Disclaimer
We are not affiliated with Sprint or Samsung.  By using this software or following these instructions you run the risk of damaging your phone.  We are not responsible for what you to to your phone.  You may be violating the warranty.

  • CWM-Recovery-LTE-SGS3-v1.tar.md5 [1] [2]
  • md5sum 2f0e18d7c18039bb46927d797823f2ad
  • Changelog
  •  v1 released 6/22/2012
  • Built from AT&T SGS3 I747UCALEM binary kernel.
  •  Samsung USB drivers for Windows

  •   Odin v3.04 [1] [2]
  • md5sum a6e2cfce68b6caf91d29edbb888fa370
How to Install CWM with Odin (Windows only)
Currently the only way to flash the SGS3 is the Odin utility on Windows.  Heimdall (for MacOS X and Linux) does not yet work on SGS3.

Step by Step Instructions

  1.  Install USB driver on Windows.
  2. Put SGS3 into Download mode.
    • Power off.
    • Power on, immediately hold down Volume Down, Home and Power buttons until a Warning  message appears.  Press the Volume Up button to proceed.
  3. Unpack the Odin .zip and run Odin on Windows.
  4. Plug USB cable into phone and computer.  If your drivers are setup properly, Odin should recognize the phone by turning the COM box on the left blue with a message "Added!!"
  5. Click on PDA, select the CWM-Recovery-LTE-SGS3-v*.tar.md5 file.
  6. Click Start to begin flashing.  If it succeeded the box on the left should turn green and say "PASS!"
How to Boot into Recovery on SGS3
  1. Power off.
  2. Power on, immediately hold Volume Up, Home and Power buttons until recovery appears.
  3. In recovery you can flash new ROM's or customization to your current ROM.  If your SGS3 is new, you may want to flash Team Epic's Root from Recovery tool, the easiest way to root the stock Samsung ROM.

Troubleshooting Odin
The #1 cause of Odin flash failures is a bad USB cable.  USB cables that come with phones are often not good enough.  It is hit or miss with retail USB cables, you might try two seemingly identical cables but only one consistently works.  Find a USB cable that works for Odin and stick with it.

Rooting guide for the AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note (SGH i717)

This is a rooting guide for the AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note (SGH i717) that allows you to run a stock AT&T rom with root. It will not provide you with CWM as it uses the stock <3re> recovery in conjunction with superuser capabilities. Use this if you wish to root without increasing your Custom Binary Counter (Samsung Mobile uses a custom binary counter to keep track of any Modding of firmwares and kernels done by users of their phones. Any flashing of roms/kernels not signed by Samsung will trigger an increase in this counter which can be viewed by putting your phone into download mode). To unroot you must be able to perform ADB cmds which means you will have to install the Android SDK to your PC .

This download is over 500mb as it has a few packages in it: GNote Total Package - Minus

    Odin3 v1.85.zip
    att_note_root.zip
    USB_Driver_for_ATT_I717_Galaxy_Note_v1_3_2200_0.ex e

Unpackage the download to someplace that you can easily find its contents. I used Winrar and placed it all inside of a folder on my desktop.

If you do not have Samsung Kies installed on your computer then the first thing you will want to do is install it or use the USB_Driver package that is included in the above download. Afterwards, plug your phone into your computer to make sure it is recognized by your computer. Always! use your factory supplied USB cable that came with the phone.

Next, you need to unzip the att_note_root.zip and the Odin3 v1.85.zip. Windows can unzip these by default. The att_note_zip contains the .tar file that will deliver root. This will be flashed using Odin in the PDA section.

By continuing on with this tutorial you acknowledge that anytime you alter your stock firmware you are officially voiding your warranty and you are proceeding at your own risk.

    Using Odin:

    1. If you have Samsung Kies installed on your computer make sure that nothing Kies related is running in the background of your PC. Check your Task Manager.
    2. Power your phone all the way off without it connected to your PC.
    3. After it is powered off, press and hold the Volume Down button and your Power button at the same time.
    4. Continue holding it until you are asked to push Volume Up to enter Download Mode. (If your computer starts installing extra drivers at this time then please be patient and let it finish)
    5. Rightclick Odin and select Run as Administrator. Using 64bit Windows, I usually have to run it this way.
    6. After a moment Odin should recognize your phone and you should see the top left box in Odin turn yellow and numbers appear in ID COMM (this represents your phone).
    7. The only box that should be tick marked is Auto reboot. Uncheck all other boxes.
    8. On the bottom right, select PDA and navigate to the unzipped att_note_root.tar file that you downloaded earlier. Make sure that it is a tar file and not a zip file!
    9. Select Start and let Odin inject the tar and then wait for the phone to reboot.
    10. Now all you have to do is make sure that you have the Superuser apk inside of your app drawer. Update it by launching it or by updating it through the Market.

Thanks to roloracer at XDA for putting this package together.

    Mobile ODIN v2.25

Mobile ODIN is the on-device firmware flasher of choice. Just throw those firmware files on your (internal or external) SD card, start Mobile ODIN and flash away.

! Your device must be rooted to be able to use Mobile ODIN. Check the list below to see if your device is supported !

If you use the EverRoot option (Market/Pro version only), Mobile ODIN will root the firmware while you flash it. Checking out that new leaked firmware? No reason to lose root!

All partitions are supported, as are loose files, .tar files and .tar.md5 files. Mobile ODIN will even check the MD5 signatures before flashing. While in theory Mobile ODIN can repartition and flash EFS and bootloaders, it will cowardly refuse to do so, for your own safety.

Flashing with Mobile ODIN is easy. You start off by starting the app. The app will check your system has everything the app needs to continue (like root). The Pro version will download additional packages if needed automatically - so it is advised to have Wi-Fi available - for the Lite version you need to install the right package manually (see the FlashKernels posts a few posts down).

Now you should see the main Mobile ODIN screen. It will list a set of partitions. Clicking a partition will allow you to select a file from your SD card to flash to that partition. Do not worry about selecting the wrong file - Mobile ODIN will not let you. Separate files (named after the partition) as well as .tar and .tar.md5 files are supported. Specific .exe files (Odin3Excutor one-click packages) are also supported.

From the desktop ODIN you may be used to "PDA", "PHONE", and "CSC" buttons. All three of these buttons have been replaced by the "Open file ..." button. This button will open the file you select from the SD card, and find all the partitions it can flash inside that file. So if you select a .tar file containing kernel and modem, the Kernel and Modem partitions will be set up to use that .tar file for flashing. To get the same result as desktop ODIN, use Open file... on .tar files for PDA, PHONE and CSC, in that order.

Now that we have selected what we want to flash, if you have the Pro version you can proceed to the EverRoot section. The EverRoot options allows you to root your firmware while it is being flashed. Never again will you be without root! Select here which apps you want to inject in the firmware that is being flashed.

Now that we are all done selecting partitions and configuring EverRoot, we continue to "Flash firmware". Mobile ODIN will gather all the information it needs and perform the flash. Before starting, however, it will check that your battery level is over 50%, and if applicable offer to verify MD5 checksums on the files you have selected to flash. If all is well, it will reboot into recovery mode, and flash the firmware you have selected.

You can also enable the wipe option. This will wipe both data and cache partition. BEWARE: If you have a device that shares the same space between data and internal sdcard partitions, enabling the wipe option will also wipe the internal sdcard !
Flashing with Mobile ODIN does NOT increase your custom kernel flash counter or make the yellow warning triangle appear.

! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK !

    Download

Mobile ODIN Pro - Android Market Website (Desktop)

Mobile ODIN Pro - Android Market App (Mobile)

Seen below is the link of Lite version of Mobile ODIN .version. Please note that you also need to download and install a "FlashKernel" manually if you are using the Lite version.

PhoenixLauncher Gives Gingerbread Users a Taste of ICS

Many are on the wait to get the Android ICS update loaded on their devices. Now XDA Recognized Developer andy572 has other plans, though, to help users get a taste of ICS in the form a launcher called PhoenixLauncher. This gives users on Gingerbread a chance to taste the ICS goodness without waiting for OEMs to release it. The launcher is for root users only, which is kind of unique as most aren’t. The reason behind it, according to the developer:
Otherwise you cant use widgets shown in the Application drawer. Its required because of a general
permission in the Android operating system, this can never be fixed by me!
The launcher comes in both free and paid versions. In the free version, you’re limited to 3 home screens and the dock bar of ICS along with some other fun features. It’s a little stripped down, but it definitely gives users the feel of ICS without actually having it. The installation method is also a little complicated, and requires users to put the .Apk in the in /system/app before using, otherwise it will cause problems.
For anyone who wants to try it out, you can find all the details, the installation method and screen shots in the original thread. Don’t forget to make a backup, just in case.

Download Odin 1.85 software for updating Samsung galaxy S2

Updating or rooting Samsung mobile especially Galaxy S2 is not easier using the official Kies software. The steps that should be followed are not simple enough to be used by common users.

The only solution for this problem is to use the Odin software. Odin is an one click rooting software. There is nothing much we wanted to do to root your device using Odin software. The steps that should be followed is explained in our older posts about rooting like,

How to root Motorola Droid 2: Tutorial

Here i have come up with a guide to root your Motorola Droid 2 smartphone. An immediate benfit of this is that you will be able to install the latest version of ICE CREAM SANDWICH  Android 4.0 firmware in Droid 2.

Rooting the device will void your phone's warranty. To get back the warranty , you need to rsetore back to the original firmware.

      Pre Requisites

Backup all your data preferably onto  the computer.
Make sure that a minimum of 60% charge is left in the phone.

      Procedure to Root

      • Before you begin with the rooting, you need to ensure that you are on the firmware 2.3.20 build. If you are on any of the newer builds then you need to roll back to the older version as this rooting process only works on the firmwares on or before 2.3.20 version.
      • Now download tools like RSD Lite 4.8, Motorola Drivers & 2.3.20 Firmware to your computer.
      • After downloading all the tools, install the RSD Lite suite in your computer and once installed, install the Motorola Device drivers next.
      • Now, Download and install the ADB in your computer and install the Android SDK in your computer to get the ADB shell in your computer.
      • After this, all you need to do is to download the rageinthecage-arm5, the Motorola Drivers & the Super user package from the below mentioned links.
      • Now, you will have to unzip the rageinthecage-arm5 & the Super user package to the same folder as adb (the /platform-tools folder within the Android SDK folder) and connect your phone to the computer using the original USB Cable.
      • After connecting, open the terminal and enter the below mentioned commands,

          adb push rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin /data/local/tmp/
          adb shell
          chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
          /data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin

      • Now after entering the above commands, you now need to enter the below commands in the command line,

        exit
          adb kill-server
          adb start-server
          adb shell

NOTE: You should see a “#”. If you see a “$”, then the exploit didn’t work, please repeat above steps.  You need to enter the commands one by one with a gap of 2 -3 seconds so as to ensure that the commands are processed.

      mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
          exit
          adb push su /system/xbin/
          adb shell chmod 4755 /system/xbin/su
          adb push Superuser.apk /system/app/

Now you have succesfully rooted your Droid 2..
